FREE D.G. MENCHETTI Young Shakespeare
Program for Families
INCLINE VILLAGE, NV (July 20, 2015) – Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival (LTSF) will produce the D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program – a FREE, interactive, one-hour adaptation of an LTSF mainstage production that is created with the young audience member in mind – as part of its 2015 season. LTSF’s 2015 D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program production runs at Sand Harbor State Park and other venues throughout the Reno/ Tahoe area July 27-August 7, 2015.
The FREE program affords a live theater experience for young audience members and their families while simultaneously providing opportunities for young and aspiring actors from regional middle and high schools to participate in the production as performers. Since its inception, D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program performances have connected over 60,000 children to the classics thanks to generous support from LTSF Chair Emeritus, and Young Shakespeare namesake, Geno Menchetti.
LTSF’s 2015 D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program Production:
Shakespeare’s most enduring love story, Romeo and Juliet is the tale of two star-crossed lovers whose families are locked in an ancient and bitter feud. Undeterred, the lovers endeavor to transcend the conflict, in the hopes that their love will bring peace and unite their community. Conceptually set in Verona High School in the 1980s, this season’s D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program adaptation promises to provide a unique and memorable introduction to Shakespeare’s play.
Although LTSF’s D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program performances are FREE (suggested donation $5 per adult; $1 per child), reservations are required due to capacity limits at Sand Harbor State Park and LTSF partner venues. Reservations can be made and complete information is available online at www.laketahoeshakespeare.com/young_shakespeare or via phone at 1.800.74.SHOWS.
