The Young Shakespeare Program features fun and interactive plays that afford family audiences of all ages a great introduction to the works of William Shakespeare and the wonders of live theater. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is proud to offer these performances FREE at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park and throughout the Reno-Tahoe-Truckee region.
Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s acclaimed in-school residency program, InterACT features activities that get students out of their seats and engaged with the many timeless themes of Shakespeare’s works as well as the magic of live theater. Workshops are offered to schools and community groups in Nevada and California throughout the school year.
Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is proud to celebrate the legacy of Geno Menchetti, Chair Emeritus, by naming the theater’s educational programming in his honor – The D.G. Menchetti Education Programs.
As a founding board member of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, Geno’s love and dedication to the Festival was paramount. His vision and determination to bring world-class live theater and entertainment to the shores of Lake Tahoe helped make the Festival the largest outdoor producing theater in the state of Nevada. He was also deeply committed to the Festival’s high-quality education programs for young people in schools and on stages throughout our region. Geno passed away on June 18, 2020. Although he is no longer with us in person and we miss him dearly, his spirit will live on at the Festival through its education programs.
The D.G. Menchetti Education Programs serve approximately 8,000 young people throughout our region each year. InterACT, an in-school residency program, brings Shakespeare to life for thousands of students in classrooms across the region. And Young Shakespeare provides aspiring actors from local middle and high schools the opportunity to work with trained theater professionals to produce free, hour-long adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays that are interactive and family-friendly.
Geno’s generous bequest to the Festival ensures the future of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival educational programming for years to come. We are proud to honor Geno’s legacy and advance his commitment to inspiring children to achieve anything to which they set their minds and hearts!
