D. G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program

Young Shakespeare Logo (Transparent BG)In honor and recognition of our Chair Emeritus, Geno Menchetti, we renamed our educational outreach performances the D. G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program in 2004.

The 2010 D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program presents an interactive, one hour interpretation of a Shakespeare's Classic set in contemporary times and created with the young audience member in mind.

Presented in collaboration with The Nevada Shakespeare Company, these performances feature a mixed cast of professional actors and young actors and will take the work of the bard to several venues throughout the Reno-Carson-Tahoe-Truckee region.

The D.G Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program is collaboration between Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival and Nevada Shakespeare Company and is presented FREE for kids and their chaperones. In 2010, we will present one of Shakespeare's greatest plays, The Tempest. The sorcerer and one-time Duke of Milan, Prospero, and his daughter Miranda have been trapped on a Tropical Island for 12 years. Their only companions; a Monster called Caliban, son of the Witch who used to rule the Island, and Ariel, a spirit loyal and known powers. His enemies find themselves at the mercy of a great storm and cast upon the island. Set on a only to Prospero. Fate brings those who betrayed Prospero within the reaches of his tropical island, with magical spirits, monsters and pirates, TheTempest promises to be a fun, interactive show for the whole family. The Young Shakespeare Production is an internship program for young and aspiring actors. The production is run as a fully professional show with eight hour rehearsals days, over four weeks. There's a professional costumer, fight director, professional actors, director and stage manager. Each young actor is assigned a professional actor as a mentor, to help guide him or her through the rehearsal process all the way to performance. The culmination is a one-hour adaptation of a Shakespeare play for kids that tours FREE performances throughout the Reno-Tahoe-Truckee region in July and early August.
