InterACT In-School Theatre Workshops
The InterACT workshop series continues to be a part of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival's school/group based Educational Outreach Program. This series is a combination of theatre and acting workshops offered to schools, community groups and youth clubs in North and South Tahoe, Truckee, Reno, Carson and surrounding Nevada communities.
InterACT is a humanities-based workshop series designed to run from one day to one week, depending upon the school's or group's needs and scheduling availability. These fun, highly interactive workshops feature activities to help students understand the many timeless themes of Shakespeare's works, as well as the world of theatre as a whole. Our InterACT instructors, seasoned theatre professionals and experienced educators, carefully craft each workshop to meet the specific needs of the students they are serving. Students engage in acting games, group discussions, in-depth character analysis, approaching the text as an actor and fun scene study sessions where the students take on roles in key scenes of the play.
These workshops are designed to align specifically with the Nevada State Learning Standards for Theatre and English Language Arts. Therefore, the workshops can supplement standard classroom learning and help fill the void of arts education that has developed in most schools due to lack of support, funding, and skilled artistic practitioners.
The program is available toall ages, to English or Drama departments with age appropriate material pre-selected. Our Educators work closely with teachers to tailor each workshop to each specific class. Workshops are based on are A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and Much Ado About Nothing. The teacher can select to work on one play with their class or to work on selected scenes from all or some of the plays. For those teachers who are just looking to introduce their students to Shakespeare we also offer an Introduction to the World and Works of William Shakespeare Workshop with a focus on the history surrounding his life and works. InterACT will get students out of their seats, give them an insight into the actors/directors perspective of Shakespeare’s work, show the relevance of his work and above all to make learning and understanding Shakespeare fun!
It is our hope that the InterACT workshops will make learning fun, accessible and serve to not only enrich each student's life, but to also create the next generation of theater-goers.
