Week 1: Into the Fireby brian
Well “Fire” isn’t exactly the right term. This week I started my PA duties up in Lake Tahoe. I am the Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) for Richard III, so most of my energy is focused on that play, but I’ll start at the beginning. I arrived late Monday night, so my first real day Tuesday, and I was greeted with a lavish reception and meal at the Lome Eagle Grille. I was able to meet a bunch of people and eat a meal that I usually would NOT have been eating. Man, can I just tell you how nice the people I met are. This experience is great for me because I have the reliability of my friends from Reno like Patrick, Lynn, Angela, and Melissa, but now I am able to meet new people and expand my theatre family. It’s so wonderful. So after the great meal, we were told to meet on the pier. What was on the pier you ask? A Catamaran awaiting us to come aboard. It was SO nice!!! The lake was beautiful, the sky was clear, and I loved it. I ran around the boat having a great time. I got to talk to with some new people. We were going to Sand Harbor to see where we would be putting on the plays. Unfortunately for me my sea sickness set in about a third they way into the trip, so I spent most of the trip lying trying to compose myself and occasionally with my head hanging over the edge of the ship. But whatever, I should have seen that coming. Anyway, we got to land and we went off to a company meeting to see costume renderings and start the read through of Richard. Man what a day. The rest of the week was pretty lax. Wednesday I spent most of the day taping out the stage for the rehearsals. And then the following few days I have just been going to rehearsal and doing what I’m told and getting to hear the play performed by very talented people. It is nice to go from getting to work at 8 and working physically for 8 hours to getting to rehearsal at 9:30 and watching people act for about 7. I have been systematically going to each eatery in Incline Village for my lunches and Dinners, so by the end of the summer I should be the Zagat of Incline Village. So yeah, I look forward to finish blocking the show and getting everything going. However I didn’t go to the beach very much this week, so in the future I’m going to try and change that. Sidenote: I was so excited to get my gym pass. I had been looking at gyms up here last month, and low and behold they gave us memberships at the gym I want to go to. So I’m pretty happy. Anyway, that’s all for this week. Stay tuned for more of my pointless rants. Same Brian Time, same Brian Station. 2 Comments... |

Bannis, don't I count as a friend from Reno? Sad! And gee, where did you get that super-cool photo of you hopping around on the catamaran net? :)
