UNR intern- Just to catch you up...

Well, hello! This is my first blog, and I believe it’s the first of the intern blogs, though someone might have already beat me to it. I haven’t checked.

I am interning with the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival(LTSF, for future reference) this summer as a technical intern, and I just finished my second week out of 15. At the moment we are building the set at the University of Nevada- Reno, and we’ll bring it all to Sand Harbor on June 9 and 10th.

We have the entire stage done, now we’re working on the set pieces. They are gigantic, and have to be changed every night…woo hoo, fun!
I love working in the shop. I’m not that experienced, but I’m learning, and it makes me feel manly. I’m not a man. But I like to feel tough and capable. Maybe that sounds bad, like, not PC. It doesn’t make me feel manly, it makes me feel like a tough and capable woman.

Today Pat and I were working on some arches that will be used in CAMBIO and Richard III. I’m pretty sure everything that could go wrong, went wrong with that project, but it’s all good, we’re fixing it.
The two men working are Pat and Brian, my fellow interns working on the set.

I tried to add some videos, but I’m just not that savvy. We’ll see if I can add some later.

I can't wait to meet and work with you! I spent two summers interning in a scene shop and working as crew when I was in college...too bad I'm the Worst Carpenter Ever. But knowing how to read plans and use tools is incredibly valuable. See you in a week!
